Several years ago John Bunjo had a vision to build a good school to provide education for orphaned and needy children. At about this time God placed Simon & Jane Sullivan from England before him.
In January 2006 Jane went to Uganda with a team to take photographs and profile prospective children for sponsorship; by mid 2006 the first sponsorships started coming in.
We began our child sponsorship program with the intention of being able to provide high quality education to the poorest of Ugandan children; orphans and children of destitute families. We aim to provide children with a quality education at selected schools, nutritious food, a mosquito net to help prevent malaria and health care.
By the end of 2009 we have managed to find sponsors for over 160 children. While many of the children have been enrolled at a boarding school, some are placed as day scholars at schools close to their homes. In all situations we choose schools that will give the best possible education. In July 2009 a team from the UK visited all the schools that our children attend and a member, who works in a teaching capacity in England, compiled a report. This will be used to determine which schools children will be placed in.
We are currently building our own school at Bombo, a town some 12 miles north of Kampala. When the first phase is built we will use this for some of our sponsored children. The full project is to build a school, catering for up to 1000 children, a clinic and a meeting centre. We aim to provide accommodation, for orphaned children, living together in small units each with its own "house mother" to look after them. We aim to plant crops for food and equip the school with a library of books, computers and laboratories, games and sports, and run co-curricular activities like sports, music, drama and dance.
We have the land, the plans for the school are complete and building began in 2008. We expect the first phase to be complete in early 2010.
